Welcoming New Horizons: Highlights from the IMPTE & IMEPE Fall 2026 Welcome Gathering

Stepping into graduate school in a new country can feel both exciting and challenging, but the recent IMPTE and IMEPE Fall 2026 Welcome Event ensured that every incoming student felt warmly received and well-prepared. The orientation kicked off with an official address from our Program Chair, who extended a heartfelt welcome to the new cohort. Beyond introducing the academic landscape, the Chair provided crucial guidance on credit expectations, grading policies, and the essential GPA requirements for scholarship awardees. Practical campus guidelines were also highlighted, particularly safety rules regarding motorbike and scooter usage, ensuring everyone stays safe while getting around Kaohsiung.

To give us a genuine glimpse into student life, two senior Ph.D. students shared their personal stories and practical wisdom. Zharfan, who completed his Master’s degree at NSYSU before continuing into his Ph.D. program, spoke openly about his early adjustment hurdles. He described the initial struggles of adapting to Taiwan’s weather and overcoming academic setbacks like lower-than-expected grades. He reassured everyone that perseverance and active socialization are key to thriving, encouraging new students to stay active through campus sports like football and badminton with local peers. He also praised the IMPTE staff for being remarkably helpful and supportive throughout his entire journey.

Building on that encouragement, Sandheep emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance by fully exploring Taiwan outside the campus. He inspired the audience to make the most of their time here by immersing themselves in local culture, attending breathtaking events like fireworks festivals, and enjoying Taiwanese treats such as pineapple cakes. His message reminded everyone that staying happy and engaging with the vibrant local lifestyle goes hand in hand with achieving academic success.

The orientation wrapped up with a casual group lunch where new students, seniors, and faculty members connected over delicious food. Conversations flowed naturally as classmates from different backgrounds exchanged stories and made their first connections at NSYSU. A big thank you goes out to the Program Chair, the inspiring Ph.D. speakers, and the IMPTE staff for organizing such a thoughtful reception and giving us a wonderful start to the semester.
