2026/02/09 An Alumns' Sharing Session-- Living the Nordic PhD Life: Culture, Study and Everyday Finland.
On February 9, we hosted an inspiring sharing session featuring Mr. Farjam Karim, who is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in University of Oulu, Finland. During the session, he brought students on a virtual journey to the Nordic region, sharing not only his academic experiences but also the unique cultural and lifestyle aspects of living in Finland.
Mr. Farjam Karim spoke about the Finnish education system, the research atmosphere, and the independence expected of doctoral students. He also described everyday life in Finland — from the long winter nights and snowy landscapes to the calm, nature-centered lifestyle and strong emphasis on work-life balance. His personal stories helped students better understand both the opportunities and challenges of studying abroad.
The Q&A session was lively and interactive. Students raised many thoughtful and interesting questions, such as: What are the disadvantages of living in Finland? How much does it cost to live there each month? What nationalities make up the international student community? How did he apply for the Ph.D. program? What are the graduation requirements set by his advisor?
The discussion sparked great curiosity and enthusiasm among the students. It is not only broadened students’ global perspectives but also provided practical insights and motivation for their future academic planning.
